What We're Reading: August 2015
Welcome back to Living My Someday, folks! I'm so glad you're here! Today, I'm excited to be sharing the books our little family is currently enjoying during the month of August. We're pretty avid readers, so these posts are near and dear to my heart. My husband and I passionate about literacy and are humbled to be able to pass that desire on to our kiddos. Much to our delight, each of our children are just as enthusiastic about books as we are.
Below, are few of our favorites from this month. All of them can be found on Amazon (links below) or at your local bookstore. Happy reading!
Because of all the controversy in certain Christian circles, it took me way too long to give this series a chance. I bought Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone last year, but couldn't find the time to get started, sadly. I held onto though, because I had the distinct feeling the opportunity would present itself. Y'all, I am so, so, SO glad I kept it! Making the choice to read it aloud as a family has given woven us together, while also helping our oldest son hone his reading (and public speaking) skills. It has also spurred many important conversations about justice, prejudice/racism, good vs. evil, friendship, loyalty, and so much more! I've got a post brewing about all the importance of this series, so keep an eye for it.
This eye-catching book practically leapt out at us from the bookshelf at Barnes & Noble a couple years ago. I fully expected the excitement to wear off, but the boys—Ike, in particular—love pulling it out and reading about all the different dinosaurs. They've even begun reading to Joy, who happily inspects (and drools on) the pictures.
We've had this board book since my oldest was a baby, so it is well-loved! It's such a sweet story of a baby bird's search for his mother. On his journey, he uses process of elimination to figure out who is—and is not—his mama. It's entertaining, but also encourages kids to start using their problem-solving skills.
What are you all reading right now? If you have any recommendations, don't hesitate to share them below! We're always on the hunt for more books to love!
