Significant Style: Classic Navy Blazer + Jeans + Head Wrap

Significant Style: Classic Navy Blazer + Jeans + Head Wrap

Happy Friday, folks! I'm so glad you're here for another installment of Significant Style! Seeing as how it's officially Fall and whatnot, I couldn't help but share my twist on the Classic Navy Blazer + White Tee + Jeans combo. It literally never goes out of style (and I should know because I've been a lover of blazers since I was in middle school. Wise beyond my years, I was...)! All the links and details are at the bottom of the post, but I also like to go through and explain the meaning behind each component of this outfit. For me, style has taken on more significance because I really do think deeply about the choices I make. Each piece has to serve me in some way, or it doesn't make the cut. Period. Gone are the days when I would suffer for fashion just to please other people and/or follow the trends.

There is just something about a navy blazer that works so seamlessly with the rest of the clothes in my closet. I've had black ones and beige ones, but almost every time, I reached for the navy. It just always made sense to me! In Phoenix, I didn't have nearly enough opportunities to wear it—'cause HOT!—but now that I live in Denver, a city with all four seasons, I know it'll be part of the regular rotation.

As for the shirt, the moment I saw it, I knew I had to have it. Whitney Houston has always been one of my favorite singers of all-time. I still remember the first time I heard "I Wanna Dance With Somebody"! It still gives me chills to this very day, honestly. There will never be another voice like hers. Whenever I wear the shirt, it gives me a reason to celebrate her life and the gift of music she left behind.

The jeans were purchased from Old Navy and I practically live in them! Pants are tough for me because I have larger thighs, thanks to my days as a sprinter, but a smaller waist. However, the Mid-Rise Rockstar are high enough to cover my butt crack without crossing into Mom Jean territory. Further, the stretch ensures a proper fit at the waist and thigh, while also allowing me to chase after three kids when necessary. I've owned other, more expensive jeans, but these are unbeatable.

This head wrap was purchased from The Wrap Life, my favorite place to find beautiful head coverings! I've purchased a number of wraps from them and I've never been disappointed, which is why I keep going back. The quality is fabulous and the material is easy to work with. Plus, it's a great protective style—I've even been known to deep condition while my hair is wrapped and no on is the wiser! If you're curious about the technique I use to wrap my long-ish locs, I've got a tutorial on Youtube.

Lemme tell you something about this leather tote, though: It's my absolute favorite handbag. EVER. I've purchased my share of purses at just about every price point, but none of them have come close to the Transport Tote by Madewell. I just adore it, and the more I use it, the better it looks! (Bonus: From now through October 12, 2015, Madewell is offering 30% off Fall Essentials—which includes the Transport Tote!—with the code HIGHFALL.)

These lovely leopard-print d'Orsay flats seal the deal by being comfortable and chic! I love having the strap, too, because my ankles are on the weaker side. I almost walked right by them because I wasn't sure if they'd work on my wide feet, but my instincts urged me to try them on and see. Purchased for less than $30, they're one of the best style investments I've ever made.

I enjoy jewelry, but I don't wear it terribly often because I have a one year-old daughter who loves to pull and yank! However, I needed just a couple items to accentuate the outfit. The ridiculously-large gold hoops are from my local Buffalo Exchange, one of the first things I bought for myself in Denver. And secondly, the cuff was an unexpected treasure I found in Forever 21 a couple years ago. Despite being inexpensive, it's quite sturdy and has yet to tarnish.
