California Road Trip 2012: Part One
Well, we've officially wrapped Road Trip 2012, and it was an absolute blast! We've been back for a few days, but I'm still recovering I think--we had tons of fun, but it was a lot of work! Anyway, I've got some pics to share, so I'll just get to those.
Because the drive from Phoenix to Carmel-by-the-sea is so freakin' long, we decided to break up the journey with an excursion to Santa Barbara, one of our favorite towns in California. Not only is it beautiful, but totally walkable and the parks--Chase Palm Park in particular--are superb.
After about an hour at the park, we headed to the Santa Barbara Zoo. It was our first time there, and we will definitely be back! It is the most gorgeous place, honestly it doesn't even feel like a zoo; it's more like a park with a few animals. It's a smaller zoo, which worked in our favor since our kids are on the smaller side. Plus, it's relatively inexpensive; I'd say about half the cost of the more prominent animal parks, such as San Diego Zoo. There were so many wide open spaces for the kids to run off the sillies and splendid views of the beach from just about every hill. It's completely lush and green, too, with tons of natural shade along the winding paths between exhibits. Bonus: I saw Angela Kinsey from "The Office"on the day that we went! In the least-creepy way possible, I quickly told her how wonderful she is on the show and I hope she has a great day. It was such a blessing to be able to tell someone you admire that she's doing quality work. I like to think it made her day (or didn't annoy her, at the very least).
We left Santa Barbara ready to continue our journey north. When we reached Carmel, we took it easy for the evening and rested up for the next few days of sun, fun, beach, parks, and aquariums!
Now, if four days of nonstop action weren't enough for us, we decided to surprise our kiddos with a trip to Anaheim.
Stay tuned for Part Two of Road Trip 2012...
