A Brand New Blog Template + 5 Reasons Why I LOVE Squarespace!
Hello, friends! Notice anything different about LivingMySomeday??? Allow me to introduce you to Skye, my new blog template! Isn't it gorgeous? Ugh, I just love it so much I can hardly contain myself!
While the Bedford template was the perfect place to start my post-Blogger transition, now that I have several months of Squarespace under my belt, I felt like trying something new. I narrowed it down between a few templates, but ultimately, Skye won out because of the easy-to-navigate layout and clean look. I wanted my audience to quickly be able to find what they were looking for without being overwhelmed. I especially love how sleek the layout is; other than the titles of my posts, there's not a lot of text. However, if you want to find more info, the hamburger navigation icon in the upper left corner pops out to reveal more options.
As I continued to play around with my new template, I got to thinking about all the reasons why I'm so very glad I pushed myself to migrate to Squarespace, despite my anxieties and fears. It has truly been one of the best experiences I've had in 2016! Before I knew it, I had a meaty list of five reasons why I love this platform. I wanted to share it in order to encourage those of who may be unhappy with your current website. Give Squarespace a try—chances are, you'll become a fan, just like me!
5 Reasons Why I LOVE Squarespace (And You Should, Too!)!
1. The Templates Are Beautiful (and Easy To Implement)
Since my template change was the impetus for this post, I figured I'd start here. Back on Blogger, if I wanted to change my template, I'd have to go hunting on the internet to find one that suited me, then spend precious time making sure the code worked and everything looked okay. On Squarespace, I didn't have to go anywhere. Because the templates are onsite, I was able to upload my favorites and test them out in Preview mode without affecting my current template. I clicked on different links to see how each element would look before I made the final decision. This gave me the certainty and control I needed in order to make an informed choice.
2. It's Inexpensive
Like many of you, I'm on a budget and have a number of other financial obligations to fulfill before this blog sees a penny. Yet, I wanted to have an aesthetically-pleasing website in order to make it easier for my audience to find what they need. Also, it makes me look more professional, which is important because this is a business, albeit a small one. Before I found Squarespace, I looked at other platforms, but my heart sank when I saw the amount of money needed to have a basic site, let alone a beautiful one. Here, I can have exactly what I want at a price I can afford. It doesn't get more perfect than that!

3. Easy To Personalize + Organize Content
One of the gripes I've heard is that Squarespace doesn't offer enough ways to make each template unique. I've not found that to be true at all! I know a number of people who use the exact same layout, but you wouldn't know it by looking at their sites. And the coolest part is you don't have to be tech-savvy to make your blog look great! I'm a Communications major, so coding is not in my wheelhouse, but even with rudimentary computer skills, I've been able to make little tweaks to my site. For example, I took what I learned from Blogger and found a way to hide pinnable images here on Squarespace. To folks who know a ton about coding, this may not seem like much, but it meant the world to me! Further, between the Blocks, Style Editor, and Cover/Landing Pages, the options to personalize and organize are nearly limitless. I'm constantly learning new ways to make LivingMySomeday.com better!
4. Smooth Transition From Other Platforms
Originally, I'd planned on migrating to Wordpress. Everyone seemed to be saying it was the very best platform to be on for those who were serious about their blog business. When I researched the transition process, every article made it out to be so scary, outlining all the things that could go wrong if you tackled such an undertaking on your own. I was so freaked out, I stayed on Blogger a year or so longer than I planned! When I found Squarespace, I was so relieved by the smooth transition. Other than a few minor issues like broken links, my spankin' new site was up and running within a matter of days, post-migration. 5. Squarespace Support ROCKS!
As you can imagine, there was a bit of a learning curve when I first started out. Thankfully, Squarespace Support was attentive and patient, answering all of my basic questions within a few minutes of asking. Also, their help site is quite extensive, combining text and video tutorials—I spent a lot of time there! Also, their customer service is great, too! Case in point, they recently experienced some technical difficulties which resulted in the site being down for about an hour. Thanks to email alerts, though, I was able to stay updated on their progress, which assuaged my anxiety. That level of communication really sets them apart.
As time goes on, I'll be making little changes here and there, but for the most part, this is the finished look! What do you think? Do you use Squarespace? If not, have you ever considered it? What do you think is holding you back? I'd love to hear your thoughts!
