Thanksgiving 2015: 40 Reasons To Be Thankful!
Hello there, good people! I initially planned to skip blogging altogether this week, but I couldn't help but share this post on the many reasons why I am incredibly thankful for, well, everything. It's been a helluva year, one brimming with intensely-steep drops.
The highs have been positively life-changing, blessing me with humility, perspective, and hard-won wisdom. What a gift! Anyway, here's a list of 40 things I am most grateful for, and here's to many, many more!
1. My relationship with God
It has deepened, widened, and grown upward. Without His steadfast grace, patience, and love, I'd be dead or in prison. (No, I'm not kidding.)
2. My husband
My lover, partner, supporter, and fellow traveler on this rather winding road. I couldn't have a better companion if I'd created him myself! He's everything and more.
3. My children
Yes, they drive me up the wall and back down again, but I am better for having all three of them. They've taught me more than I'll ever be able to teach them, I'm sure of it.
I still cannot believe we get to live here! It is literally an answer to our prayers.

6. Key & Peele
For some reason, my husband and I were the last to know that the fifth season of this fantastic show was the last! I'm still getting over it, honestly, but these fellas left us with plenty of laughs to help me get by. Check out their Comedy Central playlist for more funny—and poignant—stuff like this one! (Disclaimer: Many of the skits are uncensored, so don't watch 'em at work or around little ones.)
7. Peppa Pig
All three kids love this show so much, they'll actually sit still and watch it, which allows me to get oodles of things done around the house! I believe it airs regularly on Nick Jr., but if you don't have that channel, you can find tons of episodes for free on Youtube.
8. Ina Garten's recipe for Honey White Bread
This recipe is easy, delicious, and currently streaming on Netflix (Episode #13: "Flour Power")
9. Ellen's Scream Compilation video
I was laughing so hard, I had to pause the video in order to compose myself. Yes, it's that funny.
Often, Twitter can a be place where my faith in humanity goes to die, but not this time. This time, folks from all over came together to collectively share the pain and humor in making an ass of oneself, thus answering the question: "Is it just me?" Nope, we've all been there. (And there's been more entries! Check out the follow-up post here.)
11. The Pandora Radio app for Roku
The ability to stream all kinds of music from all over the world will never not make me smile. If I'm in the mood for something a bit melancholy, I'll select the Harry Potter station. Feeling nostalgic? Click on 90s Alternative or 90s R&B. Want to enjoy to spread Christmas cheer, but tired of the usual carols? Hipster Holidays is the station for you! Need a little music while preparing a meal? You can choose by genre or meal type! How cool is that?! There's even one called "Friendsgiving"!
After years of living in San Diego and Phoenix, our little family is finally going to experience a white Christmas and I couldn't be more excited!
13. Vaseline + Coconut Oil
I've found that these two products work great for keeping dry skin at bay during the colder months. I slather one or the other on myself and the kids in the evening; this allows it to absorb overnight, keeping the skin supple and protected from the elements.
14. Head wraps and other protective styles
Gotta protect the locs, you know what I'm sayin'? Here's a similar wrap from The Wrap Life!
15. A heater that works almost too well
It can get pretty toasty in our little apartment, but I'm not complaining!
I've finally been able to partake in many of the holiday ideas I've pinned. Take this darling image by Classy Girls Wear Pearls—I can actually make this a reality! Check out the rest of her delightful post here.
17. A Christmas Carol
I love Dickens' timeless story and virtually all of its iterations, although Scrooged is my favorite! The Muppets version is quite good, too. I'm thinking we'll pop some corn and stream 'em both for a budget-friendly family night in!
18. Stovetop potpourri
It's incredibly easy to excecute, makes the apartment smell like heaven, and it's a wonderful way to use up old fruits and spices. Check out some favorite recipes on my Happy Holidays Pinterest Board!
19. Joy's first sled ride!
I tried to upload it, but it didn't quite work out. You can see the video on my Instagram feed, though!
20. The boys' school
It's within walking distance of the our home (a long-time dream of mine!), wonderfully diverse, and the staff is 100% devoted to the students.
21. Being debt-free
Despite our many mistakes over the years, one of the things I'm so proud of is our commitment to being free of debt. Had we owed a substantial amount, we never would've made it to Colorado.
An absolutely fabulous Christmas album!
There is so much greatness in this song, I can't even begin to describe it. Just listen and feel it.
It's my dessert of choice and I recently made these brownies, so I had to include it.
26. Thanksgiving Day!
Thursday, November 26, 2015 marks our first Turkey Day since our personal apocalypse and we are beyond stoked to finally be in charge of the menu! This holiday season is truly the perfect way to usher in the New Year, unfettered by toxic family members.
27. Wine and spirits
Adulting is not for the faint of heart, but I must say, it's good to be 21+ during this festive season.
28. Harry Potter
I know I mentioned him awhile back, but I had to make a special point for this series because these books are divine and our family has been reading them aloud just about every evening. Yes, it's slower, but it also brings us closer and ensures we go on each journey together. The stories have taken us from Privet Drive to Platform 9¾ to Hogwarts and beyond, soaring high above the clouds on a Firebolt, all from the comfort of our family room.
29. Fresh, delicious water from the tap
I know it's strange, but when you're used to buying bottles of water, this is luxurious!
It's my favorite food, what can I say?
31. Trader Joe's frozen Indian food
It's like takeout, but less expensive and we can make it ourselves!
32. High-quality television shows
I am so very impressed with the variety of terrific programming available on television, these days. From Blackish and Fresh Off the Boat, to The Flash and Agents of SHIELD, Master of None and House of Cards, to Scandal and How To Get Away With Murder (and many others), there is so much to love!
It's my go-to fragrance for Fall and Winter. Just as the name implies, it is spicy and not for the timid.
34. All things Marvel and DC!
We are a family of people who love comic book movies and television shows. Even my husband, who's a bit of skeptic, has fallen for 'em. Most recently, we've been enjoying Avengers: Age of Ultron and both Thor movies. In addition to incredible graphics and CGI-technology, the content of these movies and television shows is grounded by real heart and character development. They're not only fun to watch, but full of depth, as well. The graphic below isn't even the full lineup, but I'm still ridiculously overexcited!
35. Spontaneous hugs from my daughter, Joy
I don't know why she's doing it, but every time she wraps her chubby arms around my legs, I melt.
It's just about everywhere and free of charge, which allows me to post silly pics of my food and stuff (because that's super important! Ha.)
37. My winter boots
These used to be used maybe twice a year when we would drive to a place with snow. Now, I wear 'em pretty regularly and they keep my feet toasty warm.
38. Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Can. Not. Wait. for December 18th!
39. Living My Someday
I don't have the largest platform, but I know I'm beyond fortunate to be able to do what I love while earning money for my family. It's a privilege I take seriously and I thank you all for joining me here.
40. I have self-love and self-respect
I am not the same person I was last year, and that's exactly how I prefer it.
What are you thankful for? I'd love to read your comments below, if you'd like to share 'em! Have a wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving overflowing with love!
