Let's be honest here, folks: The third trimester is a doozy! Between the fatigue, body aches, never-ending trips to the bathroom, and feeling like your stretched to capacity, it can be difficult to maintain a positive attitude. I mean, you're so close to meeting your sweet little bundle of joy...but first, you've got this last, uncomfortable hurdle to get over. Whew!
At 33 weeks along, I'm definitely feeling the intensity of this stage, but I've found a few ways to keep the grouchiness at bay (in general. I still have my snappish moments.).
1. Get Moving:
Aches and pains are inevitable right now, and despite being relatively fit, I was incredibly uncomfortable. Finally, I decided to incorporate a little yoga and gentle stretching into my daily routine. Poses such as Warrior I, Child's Pose (modified with knees apart to accommodate the belly), and Cobbler's Pose/Shakti Seat work wonders for opening up the pelvic area. Further, Cat/Cow has been instrumental in stretching and strengthening the muscles of the back as well as the pelvis. There's no rules about how long to perform these movements, just do what feels right for your unique body. Every pregnant belly and body is different, so go with your instincts. In addition, taking leisurely walks on a regular basis has greatly improved my mood and general outlook. Feeling the sun on my face and breathing in the fresh scent of orange blossoms immediately makes me feel lighter.
2. Reimagine Your Closet:
At this point of your pregnancy, it's perfectly normal to be at least a little bit frustrated with your wardrobe! In an effort to spice things up, I've been taking a second look at my more forgiving pre-pregnancy clothing. Short dresses can become tunics! Maxi skirts can be pulled over the bump and cinched with an interesting belt! A button-down (chambray is especially good for this!) shirt can function as a light layer over a dress or sleeveless top! I'm also trying to get better about accessorizing, so I've been looking to my scarves, earrings, and necklaces in order to add more visual interest (and distract from my massive belly) to my outfits. Not every ensemble is a winner, but it's certainly fun to try new things. (FYI, I've got tons of bump-friendly fashion inspiration on
if you're interested!)
3. Wear A Little (or A Lot of) Makeup:
Now, if you don't wear makeup, feel free to totally skip this step! I, however, adore it. Despite being a somewhat recent phenomenon for me (seriously, I didn't get into it until a couple years ago), it feels like I've been a makeup lover forever! Lashes, in particular, are like candy for my face. Clearly, I'm
excited about this, lol. My baby girl is a kicker, and seems to thoroughly enjoy partying in my stomach between the hours of 2am and 5am--this makes for one very tired mama! What to do?
"Fake it 'til you make it"!
A little foundation, a touch of strategically-placed concealer, swipe of eyeliner, and a dab of lipstick can work wonders. Sure, I'm still tired, but at least I don't
like it. It's a relatively small thing that gives me the mental boost I need to face each day. ("Face". See what I did there? Ha! I crack myself up.) Below, you'll find a few interesting looks I've tried during this pregnancy. You can see even more on

4. Keep Some Perspective:
You are almost to the finish line of a miraculous journey! You are the vessel chosen to house another living being, and that is truly something special. When I really sit in the stillness and marvel at the magnitude of this fact, I am instantly humbled. The fact that this is my last pregnancy makes it all the more poignant.
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb.

Well, that concludes my list! Did I miss anything? Let me know in the comments!
